8:00am - 6:30pm Laughing All the Way to the Bank: How to Keep Your Workforce Happy (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly Group Home STRTP No BRN This four-hour class will review the literature regarding positive work environments and the importance of laughter and humor. Through lectures, discussions, and activities, participants will develop an appreciation for the science behind laughter and the importance of creating workplaces that encourage employees to enjoy their work. Material will also be discussed about the importance of laughter in dealing with elders and people with disabling conditions, as it affects the types of activities planned and developed for that population.   Dementia: Engaging Activities (2 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This two-hour course is a new way to look at activities and how to create an activity program that provides meaning and growth for individuals with dementia. Too often, activity programs focus on fixing deficits and are called therapeutic interventions. The focus must be on the interests of the individual to provide meaningful and engaging activities and to provide truly person-centered activities.   Regulations: Residents' Personal Rights (2 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This course provides participants with the knowledge and ability to understand and apply the daily practice of ensuring Residents' Rights. This course is based on the client rights under the Lanterman Act passed in 1969 and CDSS Title 22.   Infection Control in Residential Care (2) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses Residents and staff in long-term care facilities are at higher risk of infection than the average population. Infections acquired in healthcare settings account for more than 380,000 deaths annually. Infections add to health care costs, increase hospitalizations, and lead to diminished quality of life for residents. Infection control is one of the primary goals of care in a residential facility. This two-hour course reviews the regulatory requirements for infection prevention and the role of the Infection Control Lead. 8:00am - 6:30pm Regulations: Risk Management and Insurance Issues (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly Group Home STRTP This four‐hour course helps administrators identify risks in their facilities through staff training, choosing levels of insurance coverage, regulatory compliance, and documentation.   Dementia: Beyond Disease  (6 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This six-hour course features the works of G. Allen Power MD, who is a board-certified internist and geriatrician. The course is centered around Dr. Power's first book, Dementia Beyond Drugs, which was named Book of the Year in 2010 by the American Journal of Nursing in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Additionally, Dr. Power's second book offers an experiential perspective on dementia rather than a medical one. Participants will follow Dr. Power's path to wellbeing through seven domains, using his book, Dementia Beyond Disease: Enhancing Well-Being, as the foundation for the course. Read more

8:00am - 6:30pm Planning Your Resident's Care (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly Group Home STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This four‐hour course helps the administrator understand how the admissions and assessment process can set resident care on the course for success. Participants will review the requirements and procedures for admitting a new resident and planning their care. They will also assess how their current process might be improved to maximize the quality of care each resident receives.   Conflict and Behavior Management (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly Group Home STRTP Approved by the Board of Registered Nurses This four-hour course teaches participants about behavior as a form of communication and how to manage it using the ABCs of behavior, triggers, and responses. It also covers identifying and handling difficult behaviors in residents. Participants will learn about the five types of conflict managers and the five Ps of conflict management, and how to apply them to different situations. The program aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively manage difficult behaviors and conflicts in various settings.   Regulations: Keeping You Current in 2025 (2 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly No Group Home/STRTP This two-hour course will cover regulations expected to be implemented in the coming year and issues the legislature is expected to act on within the year. Updates on CCLD and issues related to residential care laws, including labor laws, will be briefly reviewed. Read more

8:00am - 11:00am Diversity and Cultural Competence (3 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly Group Home STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This three‐hour course will provide a basic overview of cultural competence and its importance for people in residential programs. Administrators will examine their thoughts on ethnicity and diversity issues. The class covers diversity at all levels including, but not limited to, race, religion, gender, ethnic background, and sexual identity. 8:00am - 6:30pm Dementia: Strategies for Person Centered Care (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This four-hour course is designed specifically for those working in residential care settings with individuals living with dementia. We’ll focus on person-centered care strategies tailored to promote dignity, independence, and meaningful engagement within these environments. Participants will gain a deep understanding of dementia, regulatory updates relevant to residential care, and practical approaches to enhance the quality of life for residents affected by dementia.   End of Life Issues (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This four‐hour course covers issues for administrators who may deal with residents at the end of life. Students will have an opportunity to look at their issues about death, dying, grieving, and coping. Because of the increased life span of individuals with developmental disabilities, those operating adult homes will find information helpful for all levels of staff.   Restricted and Prohibited Conditions and Postural Supports (2) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This two‐hour course identifies conditions that are either restricted or prohibited in residential care, as well as appropriate conditions for the use of postural supports. Requirements for retaining residents with restricted conditions or postural supports will be reviewed. Read more

8:00am - 6:30pm Medications: The SMART Approach (5 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly Group Home STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This 5-hour course will cover Title 22 regulations regarding medication assistance to meet requirements and best practices. This course will prepare participants from all residential facility types on those requirements. Can also be used by live-in staff to prepare to assist with the self-administration of medications in a residential care facility. The course will also review training methods so participants can train others.   Digging Deeper into Infectious Diseases (HIV, AIDS and TB) (5 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly Group Home STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This five-hour updated course provides the most current information on HIV, AIDS, and TB necessary for ARF administrators and is also relevant for GH, STRTP, and RCFE administrators. The content includes hepatitis, MRSA, and other common infectious diseases in residential care. While the state requirements focus on client issues, this course also addresses employee concerns.
