LGBTQIA+ Issues in Residential Care (1CEU) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36846) Residential Care Facility for Elderly (36848) Approved by the Board of Registered Nurses ‘LGBTQIA+’ refers to individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, and more. The LGBTQIA+ population is both growing and vulnerable.  Studies have found that LGBTQIA+ adults are more likely than their peers to experience discrimination in long-term care. California law protects the rights of all long-term care residents. In order to stay in compliance, it is important for you to understand the laws that apply to the personal rights of your residents.  More recent legislation (SB-219) specifically protects the rights of LGBTQIA+ residents against discrimination in residential facilities. This four-hour course covers Title 22 regulations regarding medication assistance in order to meet requirements and best practices. This course will prepare participants from all residential facility types to safely assist with the self-administration of medications by providing a basic understanding of medications in general and by teaching a simple step-by-step approach to preventing errors, producing the best, most healthful outcome for your residents. Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders (3 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (34053) Residential Care Facility for Elderly (34052) Group Home (34054) STRTP (34051) Board of Registered Nurses This three-hour online course explains obsessive-compulsive and related disorders using research findings, details from the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, film clips and case scenarios. After a brief explanation of applicable psychological concepts, this course covers symptoms, possible causes, functional impairments and treatment options for obsessive-compulsive disorder, body dysmorphic disorder and hoarding disorder, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder. Osteoporosis (2 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36359) Residential Care Facility for Elderly (36360) Approved by the Board of Registered Nurses Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones become thin, brittle, and weak. Fragile bones fracture (break) easily, especially those in the hip, spine, and wrist. Injuries due to osteoporosis are among the most common and dangerous that can happen to an older adult. Given the number of residents affected by osteoporosis, facility administrators should be aware of how best to help those with this disease, and how to help others avoid it. Read more

Parkinson's Disease (3 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (33431) Residential Care Facility for Elderly (33433) Board of Registered Nurses Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects motor function, cognitive function, mood, and autonomic function. This course is divided into three parts: pathology, symptoms, and care practices. Parkinson's will eventually become a disabling disease, but this course will help the administrator understand and care and treatment can help the resident slow its progression, maintain their independence for as long as possible, and protect their dignity.
