From the duties of a mandated reporter to accidents, disasters, outbreaks, and more, this course teaches the participant how to avoid fines by properly documenting and reporting the unforeseen.   Regulations: A Visit from Your LPA (2 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (35518) Residential Care for Elderly (35519) Group Home (37155) Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (37366) This two‐hour course outlines how to be prepared for a visit from your Licensing Program  Analyst. Topics include frequency and potential reasons for a visit, what tools the analyst will  use, accommodations you are required to provide for the inspection, and potential  outcomes. Also discussed will be what constitutes a serious deficiency, the most commonly‐cited deficiencies, and citations. When, how and if an appeal is appropriate will be discussed. 8:00am - 6:30pm Activities and Resident Engagement (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36699) Residential Care for Elderly (36716) Group Home (37234) STRTP (37340) Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This 4-hour course will review regulatory requirements on activities and staffing and provide tools for providers to expand their activities program options.   Managing Challenging Behaviors - Navigating Difficult Behaviors (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36831) Residential Care for Elderly (36832) Group Home (37235) STRTP (36834) Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This four-hour course is designed to help participants manage difficult behaviors in various settings. It covers identifying difficult behaviors and associated issues, developing tips for handling these behaviors, applying concepts of grieving, identifying difficult behaviors of residents, and managing them effectively. The ABCs of behavior and teaching techniques for problem-solving and behavior management for staff are also covered. Participants will gain a better understanding of how to manage difficult behaviors and create positive outcomes.   Regulations Annual Update (2 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (37238) Residential Care for Elderly (37239) No Group Home/STRTP This two-hour class will cover regulations expected to be implemented in the coming year, as well as issues the legislature is expected to act on within the year. 8:00am - 12:00pm Disaster Preparedness (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36263) Residential Care for Elderly (36264) Group Home (PENDING) STRTP (36266) Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses It is essential that residential facilities are equipped and ready to respond to disasters that endanger the lives of residents and staff, and damage property. While not all disasters may be  anticipated, studies demonstrate that preparation, knowing how to respond when a disaster strikes,  and remaining calm and flexible can save lives and reduce physical damage. 8:00am - 6:30pm Digging Deeper Into Dementia Care (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (32755) Residential Care for Elderly (32756) No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This four‐hour course review current dementia issues, current research and development of an individualized care plan. The course covers daily living issues and activities to engage the person with dementia. It also demonstrates the importance of knowing residents to build trust and to understand and identify triggers of unusual behaviors. Participants will have an opportunity to develop training plans using activities from class.   End of Life Issues (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (35707) Residential Care for Elderly (35708) No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This four‐hour course covers issues for administrators who may deal with residents at the end of life. Students will have an  opportunity to look at their own issues about death, dying, grieving, and coping. Because of the increased life span of individuals with developmental disabilities, those operating adult homes will find information helpful for all levels of staff.   Restricted and Prohibited Conditions and Postural Supports (2) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (35792) Residential Care for Elderly (35791) No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This two‐hour course identifies conditions that are either restricted or prohibited in residential care, as well as appropriate conditions for the use of postural supports. Requirements for retaining residents with restricted conditions or postural supports will be reviewed. Read more

8:00am - 6:30pm Food, Fun and Friends - Oh My! (5 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (32753) Residential Care for Elderly (32754) No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This five-hour course looks at the areas seniors, adults and family members say are the most important as they choose residential care options.  How’s the food?  Will there be activities I’ll enjoy?  Will I get along with others who live there?  Participants leave with at least three new ideas for care.   Laughing All the Way to the Bank: How to Keep Your Workforce Happy (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36827) Residential Care for Elderly (36828) Group Home (37148) STRTP (36830) No BRN This four-hour class will review the literature regarding positive work environments and the importance of laughter and humor. Through lecture, discussion and activities, participants will  develop an appreciation for the science behind laughter and the importance of creating workplaces  that encourage employees to enjoy their work. Material will also be discussed about the importance of laughter in dealing with elders and people with disabling conditions, as it affects the types of activities planned and developed for that population.   Sex and Aging (1 CEU) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (32773) Residential Care for Elderly (32774) No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This one-hour course challenges participants to examine their attitudes and knowledge about sexuality and the aging and disabled populations. 8:00am - 6:30pm Medications: The SMART Approach (5 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36835) Residential Care for Elderly (36836) Group Home (37149) STRTP (37367) Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This 5-hour course will cover Title 22 regulations regarding medication assistance to meet requirements and best practices. This course will prepare participants from all residential facility types on those requirements. Can also be used by live-in staff to prepare for assisting with the self-administration of medications in a residential care facility. The course will also review training methods so participants can train others.   Infectious Diseases: HIV, AIDS, TB and More (5 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (32057) Residential Care for Elderly (32056) Group Home (37147) STRTP (32053) Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This is a five-hour update course that covers the most current information on HIV, AIDS, and TB required for ARF administrators, as well as covering hepatitis, MRSA, and other pertinent diseases in residential care.  While the state requirements deal with client issues, there are employee issues as well.
