LGBTQIA+ Issues in Residential Care (1CEU) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care Facility for Elderly Approved by the Board of Registered Nurses ‘LGBTQIA+’ refers to individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, and more. The LGBTQIA+ population is both growing and vulnerable.  Studies have found that LGBTQIA+ adults are more likely than their peers to experience discrimination in long-term care. California law protects the rights of all long-term care residents. In order to stay in compliance, it is important for you to understand the laws that apply to the personal rights of your residents.  More recent legislation (SB-219) specifically protects the rights of LGBTQIA+ residents against discrimination in residential facilities.
