We’ll focus on person-centered care strategies tailored to promote dignity, independence, and meaningful engagement within these environments. Participants will gain a deep understanding of dementia, regulatory updates relevant to residential care, and practical approaches to enhance the quality of life for residents affected by dementia.   End of Life Issues (4 CEUs) 12:30pm - 4:30pm Approved for: Adult Residential Facilities (ARF) Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) No GH/STRTP Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) This four‐hour course covers issues for administrators who may deal with residents at the end of life. Students will have an opportunity to look at their issues about death, dying, grieving, and coping. Because of the increased life span of individuals with developmental disabilities, those operating adult homes will find information helpful for all levels of staff.   Restricted and Prohibited Conditions and Postural Supports (2 CEUs) 4:30pm - 6:30pm Approved for: Adult Residential Facilities (ARF) Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) No GH/STRTP Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) This two‐hour course identifies conditions that are either restricted or prohibited in residential care, as well as appropriate conditions for the use of postural supports. 4:30pm - 8:30pm Evening Class!   Dementia: Science and Heart (2 CEUs) 4:30pm - 6:30pm Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly No Group Home/STRTP Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) This course offers an overview of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and related conditions, focusing on diagnosis, treatment, and person-centered care. Participants will learn about risk factors, dementia types, and how to distinguish dementia from other  cognitive impairments. The course also covers trauma-informed care, culture change, and relationship-centered practices, highlighting the importance of a supportive, low-stress environment for both caregivers and individuals with  dementia. By the end of the course, participants will gain practical knowledge on managing medications, supporting families, addressing stigma, and applying Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to provide compassionate, effective care.   Dementia: Dignity & Diversity (2 CEUs) 6:30pm - 8:30pm Approved for: Adult Residential Facility Residential Care for Elderly No Group Home/STRTP Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) This course covers essential topics for providing compassionate, holistic dementia care. Participants will explore the role of intimacy and sexuality, as well as strategies for addressing sexual behaviors in dementia. The course also emphasizes the importance of meaningful activities, music, and diversity in care. Key areas include recognizing and preventing elder abuse, managing stress, responding to emergencies, and addressing spiritual needs. Additionally, participants will learn strategies for compassionate palliative and end-of-life  care, ensuring dignity and respect for individuals with dementia at all stages of their journey. 8:00am - 6:30pm   Medications: The SMART Approach (5 CEUs) 8:00am - 1:00pm Approved for: Adult Residential Facilities (ARF) Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) Group Home (GH) Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) This 5-hour course will cover Title 22 regulations regarding medication assistance to meet requirements and best practices. This course will prepare participants from all residential facility types on those requirements. Can also be used by live-in staff to prepare to assist with the self-administration of medications in a residential care facility. The course will also review training methods so participants can train others.   Digging Deeper into Infectious Diseases (HIV, AIDS and TB) (5 CEUs) 1:30pm - 6:30pm Approved for: Adult Residential Facilities (ARF) Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) Group Home (GH) Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) This five-hour updated course provides the most current information on HIV, AIDS, and TB necessary for ARF administrators and is also relevant for GH, STRTP, and RCFE administrators. The content includes hepatitis, MRSA, and other common infectious diseases in residential care. While the state requirements focus on client issues, this course also addresses employee concerns. 8:00am - 6:30pm   Planning Your Resident's Care (4 CEUs) 8:00am - 12:00pm Approved for: Adult Residential Facilities (ARF) Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) Group Home (GH) Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) This four‐hour course helps the administrator understand how the admissions and assessment process can set resident care on the course for success. Participants will review the requirements and procedures for admitting a new resident and planning their care. They will also assess how their current process might be improved to maximize the quality of care each resident receives.   Conflict and Behavior Management (4 CEUs) 12:30pm - 4:30pm Approved for: Adult Residential Facilities (ARF) Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) Group Home (GH) Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) This four-hour course teaches participants about behavior as a form of communication and how to manage it using the ABCs of behavior, triggers, and responses. It also covers identifying and handling difficult behaviors in residents. Participants will learn about the five types of conflict managers and the five Ps of conflict management, and how to apply them to different situations. The program aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively manage difficult behaviors and conflicts in various settings.   From Stigma to Support: Addressing Mental Health and Illness (2 CEUs) 4:30pm - 6:30pm Approved for: Adult Residential Facilities (ARF) Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) Group Home (GH) Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) This 2-hour course demonstrates to participants how attitudes, language, and daily practices directly shape the emotional well-being of the people in our care. In residential care, residents may already face loss, adjustment, trauma, disability, aging challenges, or developmental differences—and when stigma is added, it can silence needs, create fear, and reduce trust. This course shifts the focus from judgment to understanding, from labels to person-centered care, and from avoidance to meaningful support. Together, we will learn how to recognize stigma, replace it with empathy, strengthen communication, uphold dignity, and build environments where residents feel safe, respected, heard, and supported in their mental health. We move beyond basic compliance to explore the frequency and logic behind unannounced visits, the specific CARE tools used by analysts, and your legal requirements during an inspection. Participants will master the nuances of Type A, B, and C deficiencies, learn how to effectively appeal citations, and walk away with a concrete strategy for achieving and maintaining "substantial compliance". It covers identifying difficult behaviors and associated issues, developing tips for handling these behaviors, applying concepts of grieving, identifying difficult behaviors of residents, and managing them effectively. The ABCs of behavior and teaching techniques for problem-solving and behavior management for staff are also covered. Participants will gain a better understanding of how to manage difficult behaviors and create positive outcomes.   Regulations: Mandated Reporting and Documenting Incidents (2 CEUs) 4:30pm - 6:30pm Approved for: Adult Residential Facilities (ARF) Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) Group Home (GH) Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) This two‐hour course outlines the requirements of reporting to CCLD when the unexpected occurs. From the duties of a mandated reporter to accidents, disasters, outbreaks, and more, this course teaches the participant how to avoid fines by properly documenting and reporting the unforeseen.
