LGBTQIA+ Issues in Residential Care (1CEU) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36846) Residential Care Facility for Elderly (36848) Approved by the Board of Registered Nurses ‘LGBTQIA+’ refers to individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, and more. The LGBTQIA+ population is both growing and vulnerable.  Studies have found that LGBTQIA+ adults are more likely than their peers to experience discrimination in long-term care. California law protects the rights of all long-term care residents. In order to stay in compliance, it is important for you to understand the laws that apply to the personal rights of your residents.  More recent legislation (SB-219) specifically protects the rights of LGBTQIA+ residents against discrimination in residential facilities. This four-hour course covers Title 22 regulations regarding medication assistance in order to meet requirements and best practices. This course will prepare participants from all residential facility types to safely assist with the self-administration of medications by providing a basic understanding of medications in general and by teaching a simple step-by-step approach to preventing errors, producing the best, most healthful outcome for your residents. After a brief explanation of applicable psychological concepts, this course covers symptoms, possible causes, functional impairments and treatment options for obsessive-compulsive disorder, body dysmorphic disorder and hoarding disorder, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder. Fragile bones fracture (break) easily, especially those in the hip, spine, and wrist. Injuries due to osteoporosis are among the most common and dangerous that can happen to an older adult.
