8:00am - 6:30pm Planning Your Resident's Care (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (35793) Residential Care for Elderly (35796) Group Home (37151) STRTP (37361) Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This four‐hour course helps the administrator understand how the admissions and assessment process can set resident care on the course for success. Participants will review the requirements and procedures for admitting a new resident and planning their care. They will also assess how their current process might be improved to maximize the quality of care each resident receives.   Conflict and Behavior Management (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36813) Residential Care for Elderly (36814) Group Home (37146) STRTP (36824) Approved by the Board of Registered Nurses This four-hour course teaches participants about behavior as a form of communication and how to manage it using the ABCs of behavior, triggers, and responses. It also covers identifying and handling difficult behaviors in residents. Participants will learn about the five types of conflict managers and the five Ps of conflict management, and how to apply them to different situations. The program aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively manage difficult behaviors and conflicts in various settings.   Regulations Annual Update (2 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (37238) Residential Care for Elderly (37239) No Group Home/STRTP This two-hour class will cover regulations expected to be implemented in the coming year, as well as issues the legislature is expected to act on within the year. 8:00am - 6:30pm Behavior Speaks Louder Than Words (5 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36719) Residential Care for Elderly (36720) Group Home (37145) STRTP (37345) Accepted  by the Board of Registered Nurses This 5-hour course provides participants with tools to understand problem behaviors in residential settings. The course is based on the premise that staff armed with the tools to understand what behavior is communicating can go a long way to improving the quality of care, and satisfaction of residents, families, and staff.   Diversity and Cultural Competence (3 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (35915) Residential Care for Elderly (35914) Group Home (37158) STRTP (37353) Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This three‐hour course will provide a basic overview of cultural competence and its importance for people in residential programs. Administrators will examine their thoughts on ethnicity and diversity issues. The class covers diversity at all levels including, but not limited to, race, religion, gender, ethnic background, and sexual identity. The course will address the issues leading to the passage of CA AB663 (2013).   Preparing for the Holidays (2 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36148) Residential Care for Elderly (36149) Group Home (37154) STRTP (37362) Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses The holidays are difficult for all of us, but they pose a particular challenge in residential care. Administrators have to navigate increased demands on their time, family dynamics, resident psychosocial needs, staff days off, and their own stress! This course provides tips and tricks to make even the most stressful holidays fun and memorable for everyone. Read more

8:00am - 6:30pm Regulations: Risk Management and Insurance Issues (4 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36144) Residential Care for Elderly (36145) Group Home (37157) STRTP (37363) This four‐hour course helps administrators identify risks in their facilities through staff training, choosing levels of insurance coverage, regulatory compliance, and documentation.   Dementia: Beyond Disease  (6 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36869) Residential Care for Elderly (36868) No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This six-hour course features the works of G. Allen Power MD, who is a board-certified internist and geriatrician. The course is centered around Dr. Power's first book, Dementia Beyond Drugs, which was named Book of the Year in 2010 by the American Journal of Nursing in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Additionally, Dr. Power's second book offers an experiential perspective on dementia rather than a medical one. Participants will follow Dr. Power's path to wellbeing through seven domains, using his book, Dementia Beyond Disease: Enhancing Well-Being, as the foundation for the course. Read more

8:00am - 6:30pm Medications: The SMART Approach (5 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36835) Residential Care for Elderly (36836) Group Home (37149) STRTP (37367) Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This 5-hour course will cover Title 22 regulations regarding medication assistance to meet requirements and best practices. This course will prepare participants from all residential facility types on those requirements. Can also be used by live-in staff to prepare to assist with the self-administration of medications in a residential care facility. The course will also review training methods so participants can train others.   Infectious Diseases: HIV, AIDS, TB, and More (5 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (32057) Residential Care for Elderly (32056) Group Home (37147) STRTP (32053) Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This is a five-hour update course that covers the most current information on HIV, AIDS, and TB required for ARF administrators, as well as covering hepatitis, MRSA, and other pertinent diseases in residential care.  While the state requirements deal with client issues, there are employee issues as well. 8:00am - 6:30pm Food, Fun and Friends - Oh My! (5 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (32753) Residential Care for Elderly (32754) No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This five-hour course looks at the areas seniors, adults, and family members say are the most important as they choose residential care options.  How’s the food?  Will there be activities I’ll enjoy?  Will I get along with others who live there?  Participants leave with at least three new ideas for care.   Dementia: Engaging Activities (2 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36825) Residential Care for Elderly (36826) No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This two-hour course is a new way to look at activities and how to create an activity program that provides meaning and growth for individuals with dementia. Too often, activity programs focus on fixing deficits and are called therapeutic interventions. The focus must be on the interests of the individual to provide meaningful and engaging activities and to provide truly person-centered activities.   Regulations: Residents' Personal Rights (2 CEUs) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (36179) Residential Care for Elderly (36180) Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This course provides participants with the knowledge and ability to understand and apply the daily practice of ensuring Residents' Rights. This course is based on the client rights under the Lanterman Act passed in 1969 and CDSS Title 22.   Sex and Aging (1 CEU) Approved for: Adult Residential Facility (32773) Residential Care for Elderly (32774) No Group Home/STRTP Accepted by the Board of Registered Nurses This one-hour course challenges participants to examine their attitudes and knowledge about sexuality and the aging and disabled populations.
